The thing that will hold back AI for the public and its use is their inability to pay for all these 500 plus dollar subscriptions per year. One for image, another for animation, another for music, editing, illustration, images, lip sync and so on. The basic subscriptions are highly limiting. I know I have tried them. And the free ones are even worse. In no time at all I can build a mesh of anything inanimate or living. You can sculpt digitally just like in clay and bring it to life in Blender or Unreal Engine.
This means for the most part only corporate non-artists can afford to use it, putting millions of people out of jobs and creating generic poor art, music, films and so on for the dumbed down masses. Although the AI looks pretty real in film and will always continue to improve it will never be indistinguishable from actual human actors in front of the camera. The intelligent discerning individuals of our society and culture will always be able to separate AI from actual art because it will always lack soul.
Thus begins the age of the lazy generic artists. I paint. I love the canvas and the tubes of paint. If the lights go out I can still express art from my soul.
The future is troubling for real artists but not hopeless. AI can be a tool but not a means to an end. Honestly if I could I'd still shoot on film with real actors and hand craft the visuals only using digital for editing and creating CGI which is still a hand and mind crafted artform.
If you don't have the ability to draw, write, sculpt, write music and so on but the AI allows you to do these things without talent and abilities you will be found out. You may make lots of money and laugh all the way to the bank but you will never be a true artist and all your money can never buy you this distinguished honor in life. This is all my opinion of course but a very strong one.
I don’t paint by numbers
.
I agree. Art is an expression of one’s soul.
AI has no soul. It’s a tool. To call a person a tool is a great insult. Because we are human. Not a tool. The expense of AI will keep it in corporate hands and those with the money to use it may not have integrity. But eventually, like all tech the price will come down and its use will be more widespread. It will be interesting to see how it develops. But humans have a history of not being good shepherds of any advancement in technology. We need the do better, in so many ways. Have we ever seen an advancement in science or technology that didn’t eventually get used for nefarious purposes?
